The language filter isn't perfect. There are still things people can say that get through it.

Problem: offensive, profane, obscene talk in local chat. General solution: turn off local chat and ignore problem.
Do you think that the game was meant to be played that way? Or do you think that the problem goes away by turning off local chat?
Some of us want to play with groups. Some of us want to talk about solutions to difficult quests. And new players want questions answered. Or has the community settled down and decided that there are no new players, only new characters and they have all the answers to all the quests? Or is it that the game is degenerating into a "run me" scenario just like D2?
Ignoring the problem gives the miscreants and degenerates control of the game, because you are playing around them instead of playing the game the way it was meant to be played.
This game was sold as a "family" game. But the family who seems to be in charge are the Mansons.

I knew that all along, but i decided to turn it off since I like to express my self the way I am, not theway other people want me to be. They can use it all they want

They do, it seems like. Every time I report something occuring intown, they ask for district, time, my character's name, and the other person's name.

Y 'know, i really haven't run into this particular problem. Could be I'm just doing a good job ignoring it, I dunno. However the whole concept of "cybering" just seems disgusting - especially since I know of only a few people who play GW that are of the opposite sex. (women) Of those I do know, I don't think many would be turned on by this. So I guess it means the only people doing this are just dudes...which is kinda gross..
As for the bad langauge, that's why GW has a chat filter. I don't have to see any foul language when that's on. Well...except for when people decide to get creative and do stuff like E*X*P*L*I*C*I*T*I*V*E so the filter doesn't pick up on it. Or when they spell words incorrectly on purpose so they still appear.
When I'm in a team, I don't mind cussing and such, 'cuz it's between friends. It's just like a bunch of buddies chilling together at their favorite hang-out spot - only their hang-out spot is a fantasy realm in the virtual universe. Personally, I have no issues with cursing between friends, but cursing in public is disrespectful to those around you, especially when words refer to a person's race, gender, or sexual orientation.
So for example: I'd never use profanity on GW Guru, because it'd be in public, and some people might be offended by this. But if I were having a private conversation with someone from the forums, and I knew they felt comfortable about cursing, I might use words I wouldn't normally because I knew it was cool with them.
Stay cool guys!

it's like the endless battle between the fcc and howard stern. it basically boils down to personal accountability. if you don't like what i have to say, don't listen to it. what anet should do imo is make ignore cover all channels instead of just whisper.

Penny Arcade speak the truth
As for the topic, well, I got a female *black* elementalist as one of my char (All my female chars are black. Just call me weird ). I first wanted a echo nuker, but so far, I'm thinking of using it as jailbait with how much "RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO" and sexism I get with it. Not to say humping warriors

You can always just mute the chat. There's really nothing to do about such things as these. What can they do? Ban everyone who uses the F-Word? That'd sure go over well with about.. 3/4th's of the GW Community. I, in my six or seven months of playing Guild Wars, have never experienced someone using "sex talk". As long as you aren't a part of it, you shouldn't be bothered with it.

I rarly hear this type of language...and i play ALL the time. Is it possible that
A) Im soooooooo perverted as to be desensitized to it all or
B) you re too sensitive to the language to the point it actually upsets you and compels you to write about it in forums....
6 of one , 1/2 dozen of the other.
